Red Bulls Top the Academy, 3-2
In an offensive game full of end-to-end action, the New York Red Bulls topped the Long Island Academy, 3-2, at Adelphi University’s Competition Field on June 15. The Red Bulls improve to 6-0-1 to lead the Atlantic Conference of the National Premier Soccer League while the Academy drop to 1-4-0.

Against the run of play, the Academy got on the board first with a header from Zach Kupfer off a headed assist from Prince Elfstastan in the 18th minute. Matt Bourage then scored two goals for the Red Bulls, in the 31st and 40th minutes. His first goal was a five-yard shot in a goalmouth scramble off an assist from Sacir Hot. His second tally was a shot on the edge off the penalty area from a 25-yard diagonal pass from Mario Rios.

Gustavo Dias then scored in the 53rd minute to tie the match at 2 off a long cross from Matt Avellino. The Red Bulls must have been taking notes as they came down the field two minutes later and scored a carbon-copy goal, a 15-yard shot from John Tardy off a long cross from Connor Lade.

With the score 3-2 Red Bulls, the Academy put nine players in attack during the last five minutes of the match but they could not get a third goal past Red Bulls keeper Sheldon Parkinson.

Parkinson made one save for the Red Bulls while Brandon Lafferty made three saves and Hernando Santamaria two saves in splitting time in net for the Academy.
