Academy Lose to the Red Bulls, 2-0

While the Red Bulls’ first team was defeating the Houston Dynamo, 2-1, on June 2 at Red Bull Arena, a short corner kick away at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, the Red Bulls’ National Premier Soccer League team bested the Long Island Academy, 2-0. The Red Bulls are now 2-0-0 in the NPSL while the Academy drop to 1-2-0.

Academy keeper Michael Gallagher of Sayville made his NPSL debut and stymied the Red Bulls in the first half. Hernando Santamaria of Glendale was the Academy keeper in the second half and wound up surrendering two goals—on a penalty kick in the 60th minute and a breakaway in the 81st minute.

The Academy looks to get back to their winning ways with a game on Saturday, June 12 at the 3-0-0 Brooklyn Italians. The Academy’s sister team, the Women’s Premier Soccer League national champ Long Island Fury at 3-0-0, play at the 1-1-0 Millburn Magic in New Jersey this Friday night, June 4 at 7 pm.
